Scholarships

Since its establishment in 2017, Norbuling Rigter College (NRC) has placed strong emphasis on supporting and rewarding students through scholarships. While records from 2017 to 2020 are incomplete, from 2021 to 2025 the College invested Nu. 17.87 million in scholarships under various categories, including Academic Excellence, Tarayana, Games and Sports, Voice of Bhutan, Palden Drukpa, and assistance for financially challenged students.

Norbuling Rigter College (NRC) offers scholarships for academic excellence, talent, leadership and initiatives to recognise the potentials of the young minds. The scholarships are:

Ugyen Phintsho Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence Late Ugyen Phintsho was the Proprietor and CEO of Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies. Norbuling Rigter College is his brain Child. Thus, to honor his contribution to Education and the Nation at large through private sector initiative and participation, this award will be offered every year to one student for academic excellence. Once admitted to NRC, the Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs will evaluate the Class XII marks and award the scholarship.

Ugyen Phintsho Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence

 

Highest average of five best marks of class XII.

Note:

  1. Scholarship shall not be offered if there are no candidates with 75% or higher (average of the five best marks of class XII)
  2. If there are two candidates an additional criteria such as Leadership, sports, volunteerism, etc. will be considered. Students should produce certificates as evidence).
  3. Scholarship will not be offered if there are no students with 75% or higher ((average of the five best marks of class XII)

Applicable for 2025-2026 Academic Session

 

  1. Free tuition
  2. Free food
  3. Free boarding
  4. Three years with conditions applied
  1. Display good conduct (no disciplinary issues)
  2. Should pass (no repeat modules)
  3. Should maintain his/her academic position within top 10 students from the cohort/batch.
  4. Non-transferable
  5. At the end of each semester Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs will review if the candidate has fulfilled the conditions.

Note: 

 

  1. Failing to fulfil the conditions would lead to revoking the offer at the end of the semester.
  2. A new candidate will be selected from the same batch of cohort to replace the revoked candidate.
  3. The new candidate will be the one who has secured the highest semester marks in the same semester in which the earlier candidate is revoked.
  4. The new candidate (2 above) shall have a minimum average mark of 75% in that particular semester.

Example: If the recipient of this scholarship from the 2023-2024 cohort/batch fails to uphold the conditions in semester one of year one. The scholarship offered will be revoked in semester two of year one. The student who has 75% or higher (average of all the modules) in semester one from this cohort/batch will receive the scholarship w.e.f. semester two. An agreement shall be signed between the College and the recipient.

Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies Scholarship for Talent: Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies is the investor of Norbuling Rigter College. This scholarship will be awarded to one student to honor talent. Once admitted to NRC, students can apply to the Dean of Academic Affairs along with copies of certificates to be evaluated by a committee.

Criteria Benefits Conditions

Talent (Non-academic and Non-literary such as sports, games, music, singing, dancing, art, etc.

Students may produce certificates in more than one area. However, the certificates will have to be from the time when studying in classes XI and XII only.

Applicable for 2025-2026 Academic Session

  1. Free tuition
  2. Three years with conditions applied
  1. Display good conduct ( no disciplinary issues)
  2. Lead and coordinate activities related to the talent.
  3. Should not have failed the semester
  4. Should not have more than two repeat modules at a time.
  5. Non-transferable
  6. At the end of each semester the Management will review if the candidate has fulfilled the conditions.

Note: Failing to fulfil the conditions would lead to revoking the offer at the end of the semester. A new candidate will be selected from the batch applying the same selection criteria.

50% Tuition Fee Waiver: NRC offers a 50% tuition fee waiver to students processed through organisations such as Tayayana and RENEW. The College will post this offer on our website and Facebook to inform interested students so that they can apply through these offices. Till now the college has offered 50% tuition fee waiver through organisations such as Tarayana and RENEW as well as to Druk Super Star and Kalapinka for talent in Music.

Tuition Fee Waivers for Academic Performance: To further inspire academic growth, the College also introduced a Tuition Fee Waiver for Academic Improvement beginning in the Spring Semester of 2022. Under this scheme:

Academic Performance 80% and above aggregate Semester Result. 50% Tuition Fee Waiver in the subsequent semester. Eg. If a student had obtained 80% and above in Semester one, the waiver will be applied in semester two.
  • Waiver is valid only for one semester.
  • Admission Committee will announce the criteria, benefits and conditions every semester.
8% and above aggregate Semester Result. 25% Tuition Fee Waiver will be provided to Students improving their performance in the subsequent semester. Eg. If a student had improved their performance 8% and above in Semester one, the waiver will be applied in semester two.
6% and above aggregate Semester Result. 15% Tuition Fee Waiver will be provided to Students improving their performance in the subsequent semester. Eg. If a student had improved their performance 8% and above in Semester one, the waiver will be applied in semester two.

Other scholarships: The college offers scholarships for excellence in different fields such as research, leadership, sports, initiatives, volunteerism, among others to deserving students. The Admission Committee evaluates potential candidates and proposes to the College Management Team for final review and approval to ensure that the credibility of the scholarship is upheld.
